Default Here's a New Issue

I went to Boston this week and was on I93 doing roughly 80 in 4th gear (manual mode). This sets the tac around 4500-5000. All of a sudden the car jumped into 5th, then 6th, and would not downshift. I slapped it back into auto mode and tried giving it some gas, it wouldn't give any more. I think the car went into limp mode but looking at codes and other conditions, I have no idea why. After a few miles it went back to normal.

Anyone ever had this happen?

Nope, haven't had that problem before. Although, I never use the "manual" mode neither......you might wanna go and get that checked out man. But seriously though man, you might just have a lemon because you seem to have hellllllla problems with sensors and what nots.

Yes it has happened to me once before at the performance meet.... I had the car in manual mode and was going hard on the gas... when i went to downshift to pull off, it wasnt letting me.. i put it back in drive and it was going kinda slow...

my guess was that because the rpm was too high and i was trying to downshift.. the computer was stopping me from doing so..

when i got slow enough -- almost coming to a stop -- i was able to downshift in manual mode and everything was good again.

--i guess you cant downshift at certain speeds/rpms otherwise you'll blow the tranny & the ecu is stopping you from doing so.

This is how lots of the vehicles that have these manual shift modes work today. You're never really completely in 100% control because the cars computer will generally override you if it thinks you're doing something retarded lol.

I only use manual mode when jumping on the highway. Down shift from 3rd or 4th to 2nd or 1st. There really isn't much advantage otherwise.

Has the car returned to normal?

Nah, the cars not a lemon. The O2 issue was due to a bad install. I never really had problems until I had headers put in so whatever.

Apo, Pretty much giving up on the CEL now. Its obviously just due to the higher air flow. Until I can find a way to tune my ECU, its something I will just need to put up with. I had a bunch of posts on the other forums but they shut down!

What headers do you have?

Only thing you can use to tune your 6.5gen is an SAFC2 to tune air flow and fuel ratios. eManage won't work

For tuning you should read this: Apexi SAFC2

Shayne has no CEL on his Cattman headers. I believe he has an 02sim installed and the CEL has never come on. Now if you have the eBay headers... its more than likley you will live with the CEL lol

with o2 sims it shouldn't matter if its ebay or cattman headers, you should be able to get rid of the code, only problem is they don't make the o2 sims anymore, and the o2 spacers dont work on our cars.

And what you experienced was safe mode, won't throw a code or anything, its a protection mode managed by the tranny computer, made to protect the tranny from damage. If it happens again, pull over, put it in park, shut if off, turn it back on, and your good to go. No worries

I don't want to add something that will completely make my O2 sensors useless. Doesn't the Sim just ignore what the O2's actually put out in order to stop the light from coming on? I also want to make sure the light will still come on if I run into any other problems too.

Yeah thats 100% true it doesn't matter. I was just trying to say that most people have had more success with Cattman than eBay in terms of no CEL.

I got my 02 sim from a group buy on the big org.
