Default Engine Service Soon Light Came On Today Need Input

Ok guys my car is a 08 maxima with 51k miles. I bought the racingling HFPC from hero782. After install Today i get to drive her. After driving it around for 30 miles the Engine Service Soon light came on . I don't think its the cats thats failing because i don't smell anything wired, Engine performance is the same, car didn't stall or anything. Everything is normal. Its the first time the Engine light came on since i bought the car. After i got home i reset the ECU and it went away. After the ECU reset i drove for another 10 miles Engine service soon light didn't came on. I read somewhere if the cats are Cogged up then the pre cats will glow red. So i got under the car everything seems to be fine. BUT here want i think where i fucked up. When i was trying to take off the O2 sensor from the stock pre cats i "sprayed" PB blaster on the both of the sensors. Because the Son of guns didn't wanna come off the stock pre cats. so you think i fucked up the sensors?

Thanks,
deep

you fucked up the sensor .

GUYS and GALS ATTENTION :

DO NOT SPRAY ANYTHING ON o2 SENSORS , you will risk damaging the sensor.

No brake cleaner, no degreaser, WD / PB nothing on them.

When you put the o2 sensors in you should have use some Anti-seize on the threads

Not sure I understand what exacly you meant above, but the P0420 relates to catalist ineficiency...Have a reputable shop data stream you Max for B1S1 & B1S2 if within range....and switching. Im almost certain your post cat rear sensor (heater)(B1S2) sensor is stuck low or lazy but dont hold me to it till you scan your Max...

well when i switched from stock pre cats to racingline high flow cats i sprayed some PB blaster on the O2 sensors. Couple days later i got this code P0420. car only have 51k miles and my stocked cats were fine too. so I'm thinking i fucked up my O2 sensors by spraying PB blaster on them.

I'm not understanding something here. How did you spray the sensor if it was stuck in the cat? If you just sprayed the outside to loosen it then it shouldn't damage it as long as it didn't drip down onto the actual sensor. If you took the sensor out and then sprayed it to try and clean it then you probably damaged it.

By the way if you find out whats wrong, let me know because my SES light came on too after the HFPC installation. Kinda pisses me off that they were advertised as an alternative to headers so that you would avoid the SES light in the first place. (All my O2 sensors are brand new)

when I take out the stock cats the O2 didn't wanna come off so i sprayed PB blaster on both side outside and inside. I bought these cats from hero782 he never had a SES light. So I'm bought his O2 sensor since mine are fucked up.

I read somewhere that you said you HFPC are failing. Did you smell the rotten egg or decreas in engine proformance? what code are you getting?

No rotten egg smell and engine performance was normal. And code is P0420.

And how did you check your pre cats....? The only way to realistically check your pre-cats is with a gas analyzer bench. What you do is take a gas sample upstream and a gas sample downstream and you plug the numbers into a catalytic efficiency formula....I'm almost certain you don't have one of those benches. Visual inspection of catalytic converter honeycomb element tells you nothing. You can have a perfect looking cat and still fail emissions still trigger CEL's.

Also, there is no need to spend money on OEM 4 wire heated o2 sensors. Universal sensors work just as well and are manufactured by the same companies that make them for OEM. I can easily prove my statements. And I'm not being cocky. Its just that I do this everyday for a living and have a bit of experience. I'm also a licensed emission inspector.

well I bought them from hero782 he never had an SES light and when I put em on I got the SES light. I never had an SES light with the stock pre cats. He took em off because he went with headers. So my only options right now is replace the O2 sensor since I think sparing PB blaster on them might have mess them up. when I first erase the SES light I drove the car for about 500 nd it came back nd now I just decided to go with new O2 sensors.

Correct. As I stated before P0420 is for bank1. Focus on that bank. Purchase a universal 4 wire sensor or direct fit if you have money and want to go the plug and play route. I can make a little video if you need help wiring a universal.
