Default Engine Movement

I noticed while my car was in the shop. The hood was up and the guy backed out and drove in again. Well when he switched gears the engine actually lifted up and then down. Is that a transmission mount? The engine mount was already replaced.

What year/tranny do you have? Can you tell how much it lifted? Was it a fraction of an inch or was it more? Describe the engine movement... Side-side, tilting, straight up & down.

2004 5speed auto. The engine lifted straight up and down, more than an inch.
It lifted in reverse and than back down in drive.

Front to back. The front lower mount was replaced last month. How could this be?

more than likely the rear one needs to be replace.

when the rubber mounts inside break , they shift back anytime you reverse it.

it puts alot of strain /torque on them.

if one side isnt balance this would cause that movement.

EDIT : ( NiZMo ) I dont know how to management to type this under your SN... probally too early in the morning

+1

Your going to see some movement.

I have never broken a motor mount on an automatic but when i broke one on a 5 speed it was very noticeable when shifting. Heard a clunk every time i released the clutch. I went through front motor mounts like a bag of reese's pieces on that car because i beat on it bad.

Some movement should be normal, but if you are worried have your mechanic check it.
