Default Cooling System Purge Valve?

Hi guys,

Had to replace my radiator yesterday, I had a leaking AT fitting. Replacement went relativly smooth, but now it sounds like I have some air trapped in my system.

At idle it sounds OK, but on acceleration I'm getting a "whining" noise.

I'm going to attempt to purge the air fromt he system tonight, but I can't find any info on a bleeder or purge valve with our cars. Is there one?

My plan right now is to to the purge on a very steep hill, but I'd be sure to gte all the air out if I can use a pruge valve.

Let me know guys. I'll put up a video of my noise ASAP.

So, if you go buy a new one, which is probably the best bet since the valve spring in radiator caps to not last indefinitely, then take your old one and cut the valve-spring system right out of it, as you can see by my old one in the attached pic.

What will this do? When you place the modded radiator cap on the radiator, it will provide an "open path" from the cooling system to the coolant reservoir because there is now no valve-spring. As the engine idles, the coolant pump will cycle the coolant and air in the system. As the coolant and air moves from the engine to the top of the radiator, the air will pass out to the coolant reservoir since it weighs less than the coolant. And with the valve-spring gone, the system never becomes pressurized, so the coolant is never pressurized, and will, as a result, not move to the coolant reservoir.

All you have to do it keep an eye on your coolant reservoir to ensure that it is properly topped off with coolant.

Update! Not good news.

Thanks Terrentius! The rad cap seemed to help lock down the top-end of the coolant issue.

The trouble is not in the top end...

Headgasket?? I can see coolant dripping, and there's green crud around the edges.
