Default Clutch Sticking To The Floor

ok i just recently bought a 2004 maxima 6 spd. it was in great condition and an awesome price so i took it. i love everything about the car but lately my clutch has been acting up. it'll have almost no resistance and be close to the floor making it hard to shift. i googled it and it seems to be a wide spread problem but i wanted to see if anyone has figured a definite fix or atleast the source of the problem. thanks in advance for the help

Got any history on the car? Mileage?

Maybe the clutch is going out.

car has about 112k miles. ive considered that the clutch may just be going out but was being optimistic hoping there was an easier fix lol. the car had one previous owner, older gentleman so dont think there was too much racing type driving going on.

112K seems a little early, but definitely possible. I do not know how you could check without a mechanic and labor prices involved. Sorry dude.

Any one you could take it to to get it checked out cheaply?

Hopefully some gear heads will chime in...

Good thing about it is that it's something you have to replace at some point anyways, and it's usually not indicative of something bad in your car. Just comes with the territory of MT. At least you can probably look at options on clutches now...

Good luck dude.

I had that issue a few times myself, but it seems to have fixed itself. It seemed to only happen when I went over to a friend's house and parked on his steep driveway, nose down. But I know I've parked like that before with no issues. I never had it looked at.

This happened in my old Prelude and it was the clutch slave cylinder. It was about a $300 fix. Cheaper than a clutch.

really? dang i might have to get that checked as well. 300 sounds way better than what a clutch would probably run me!

Yea, I thought it was the clutch. I ordered one off of eBay. Then brought it to a clutch specialist and he said it was the slave cylinder. Clutch would stick when floored for a second. Started to get symptoms of clutch going.

I also had a clutch go on my when I was 13 in my brothers Fiero about a hour away from home with no money (long story) but the clutch fried and it smelt really bad. I'll never forget the smell of clutch after that

Here's something that might help. When I first got my 6sp. it did that, had the dealer check it out, it wasn't acting up under their testing, 'til one day it did it when I was around and they indicated it was the clutch slave cylinder. In warm weather, the boot under the dash 'swells', fluid slips by the 'pin' when you depress the pedal, and sometimes sticks... or it could be the pressure plate is going south. They eventually changed the whole clutch setup 'cause they probably got tired of the back n forth.....

inspect around the salve , see if its leaking ,if your still full , sometimes you might have air in the system and it needs to be bled.

if the clutch is engaging in all gears its not your clutch yet

I have been hearing that this is caused by the clutch damper and neither the master or slave cylinders. Anyone know how true this is? About to tackle this issue

im hearing the damper as well. mine stopped doing it so i never had it checked. it just recently did it again over the weekend so i guess im going to have to give in and have it checked. i read somewhere online someone bypassed the damper and it solved the problem. ill try to find it again to make sure thats what it said.

There's a huge difference between what this guy is experiencing and what the OP is and what I was. That guys pedal just broke and just dropped to the bottom. Mine for example was just sticking. You push to shift and gets stuck but even in the spot it got stuck I could still shift or release the pedal back with my foot. Mine only did it on really hot days or when driving the car for a while. I drained all the fluid in there and replaced it with Dot4. Dont remember the brand but it was synthetic and pricy. It worked though. Dot 4 takes better to heat, even if you don't have issues its a good idea to replace what you have now with Dot4.
