Default Check Engine Light (CEL) P0744

Hey guys, I'm in need of advice.. My check engine light is on and I took the ride to a shop to see what code came up and a code of PO744 Torque converter came up.. When the car runs cold it rides fine, but when the car heats up I run into all types of problems.. so bad that now it's parked and i'm driving my back up car, Mitsubishi Montero.

For example guys, When I'm stalled at the light and want to start driving the engine barely speeds up and it's like i'm holding down the gas pedal and its just sloowwly getting up to 30-40 mph,, till eventually after like 10 seconds I get up to 50-60 and run into no problems after I hit high speeds..car runs fine.. but it's obvious and now I need to fix it.. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Any mechanics willing to fix my trans? Its depressing all summer being stuck with the montero lol! Ahhh...

Any suggestions guys on what to do? Do I need to replace the whole transmission? If anyone can fix it or knows anyone who can.. let me know guys thanks a lot..

This issue here sounds like a MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR problem. I had that same issue. I would punch it all the way and it would slowly pick up speed. This was because the RPMS would not go over 2K.

Do you know any 6thgenners nearby that could let you hold their Mass Air Flow sensor? Worth a shot versus spending any $$.

Are there any issues when shifting to any gears? Does it lock or does it go 1-2-3-4 etc.... smoothly?

That's a good heads up. MAF testing/switching is a good place to start.

Really appreciate it man for being so prompt and replying so quick!!! THANK U!

I have that same problem that it would not go over 2kRPM after holding the pedal so firmly,, then evenntually it would go past and start to act normal and pick up speed. But as far as lockings concerned, I've noticed sometimes when I just shift to neutral, it's almost like a reset button.. like if I was driving and switched to triptronic mode and I was in the 4th gear around 40-50 mph, and then wanted to shift to the 5th gear, it wouldn't let me go up or down and it would stick on 4th gear, until i went back to neutral and the car would do a slight kick, and I could shift to the 5th gear? Hopefully that makes sense, I just feel like the transmission is a default and I got screwed somehow because I've taken good care of the car, never had issues until this came up.

its a small plastic black pice that reads how much air is coming in
its connected middle section of the intake tube...... and has wires coming out of it very obvious take a look.

the MAF is the sensor that is on your air intake. in this picture it is the black part inbetween the 2 bugatti blue pieces.

ahh thanks guys for replying! So do I need the housing for the MAF sensor? or can I get by with just the sensor? Do u think guys this is the problem? I was quoted today freakin $4,800 to rebuild the transmission due to the code (PO744 Torque Converter lock-up) But for some reason i'm reluctant to spend that much yet, I'm trying to find someone who can do it for much less,I can't afford that much now,, succks!

U can replace just the sensor, don't need to replace the tube...as for tranny, definitely shop around.

Hey guys, I'm having a similar issue with my tranny.

I've got an 04 with about 100100 miles and last night she stalled out on me after getting off the highway. It took forever to crank back on and then I had the same acceleration behavior you guys were describing. Put it in tiptronic and saw that it was stuck in 5th and I couldnt shift down at all. So I parked and disconnected the battery for about 10 min then cranked back on fine. Started to drive just fine then stalled out again at a light and threw itself back into 5th. CEL was on but havnt pulled a code yet. Any ideas what this could be??????

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

If the CEL comes back on make sure you get the code before you reset the battery again.

I sure will. After doing some more research, its looking more and more like a camshaft sensor based on my symptoms...

Well, pulled the code for camshaft pos sensor bank 1. Replaced that with a duralast sensor and no luck. So my mechanic advised I do both bank 1 and 2, as well as the crank pos sensor. Got everything done for $340, OEM nissan sensors included. Sound like a fair price?
