Default Car Completely Shuts Off

anybody experienced when you try to start your car absolutely nothing works? i had this happen Thursday morning after i put gas. i turned the key nothing wouldn't work. headlights wouldn't turn on, interior lights, emergency lights, engine, my car alarm stopped working, and even the gas door wouldn't open when i pushed the button on the drivers door. the only thing that lighted when i tried to the start the car was the airbag and seat belt symbol in the dashboard except it was dim.

thinking that it was the battery that went out (although i bought it last year). i had the car towed to the mechanic and he charged the battery for just a minute and the car started up. he checked the battery and the meter shows that its working fine with no sign of draining. it also showed that the alternator is charging the battery as well. im pretty much perplexed as to why my car just died all of a sudden. also tonight as i was heading for work the check service soon light came on.

coincidence or not, minutes before i stopped for gas, i was on the freeway and up ahead i saw a 6th gen maxima driving along. maybe 2-3 minutes later i see that same maxima on the emergency lane. as i was pumping gas i see the maxima being towed away.

Gotta love how it does right for the mechanic. If it gives you another problem, turn on the parking lights or something and mess with the battery terminals until they light up. Could have a bad terminal or bad ground under the battery tray.

hmmm, might also want to check as DALASTDON said, the negative battery ground thats under the battery tray. disconnect and Remove battery, remove battery tray (3bolts) follow ground cable to see where its connected. I have seen them corrode and break off thus not giving the battery ground, causing all sorts of issues, some similar to what you are experiencing.

We definitely need the code the car is throwing to help you out more. Keep us posted

I had a very similar problem several years ago on a Cadillac. It was a bad ground cable to the battery. Simple and inexpensive fix.

The experience i have had with the autozone code readers is that they give general codes. i mean there is a multitude of things that could be given under one code

Since the car is mostly drive my wire, could be a sensor. Check all your sensors, fuses, and relays.

Yeah as mention , the negative cable underneath the battery trey was a common issues, it would corride over time causing issues starting.

as for the SES , you need to check up on that.

Good luck
