Default Battery Discussion

Are Optima batteries really any better than a normal battery? I've never researched them to see pros/cons but I know they're expensive. If this topic belongs in another thread/section, forgive me.

Default Re: Big 3 Upgrade?

I've tried all types of Optima batteries.

OPTIMA RED = Strictly a starter battery, the highest CCAs out of all of them, ZERO deep cycle capabilities.

OPTIMA YELLOW = Less CCAs than RED but with deep cycle capability.

OPTIMA BLUE = Exact same power configuration as Optima Yellow with the exception of the BLUE having two addition mini pin terminals [threaded] to allow wingnut type connections for additional gear.

(99% of people on other forums post incorrect information that Optima Blue is stronger than yellow, it's all incorrect, you can check Optima's spec sheets and you will that Yellow and Blue share the exact same CCAs. I've been through many many different batteries after running high powered amps and had to do the research to validate this).

This is quoted BTW!

Honestly you really dont need that. They are very expensive and while they are very nice batteries Id use the money elsewhere.

I bought a top of the line Autozone Duralast for my car. Im runnung 2 amps both with 0 ga. wire. One is putting out about 1200 watts and the other is about 200 watts. I did the ground upgrade and with this battery not a single issue.

If youre having dimming issues with your setup, there might be something else wrong. Maybe its just a weak battery or maybe a weak alternator. You should have no problems with your system and a stock charging system.

I wouldn't waste my money on Optima, unless it's a backup battery. Look into Kinetics batteries. I had the hc1800, but you can get the 1800, 2000, or 2400 series, depending on your needs.

When you say "waste my money" are you saying the Optima isn't worth the money? Because the yellow top is $200 and the KHC1800 is $350.

They're good batteries but just a little overpriced for what they are. Im telling you really dont need a battery of that caliber. A 10" sub isnt going to draw that much power.

I'm not saying that's definitely what I'll be buying. And I'm not buying a new battery strictly because I'm installing a sub. The battery that I have is fine for now, but it has a few years on it and will probably need to be replaced in the near future. I'm just trying to get some info on different batteries since the topic was mentioned.

Just because some people use Kinectic doesnt mean somebody's wasting their money on an Optima. Optimas are still good batteries. Kinetics are good too but there are plenty of people who have optimas with no problems.

The HC1800 I got was $190 shipped off the caraudio forum, brand new.

Yellow tops run around $150-160 here, so i'm not sure where you're seeing $200.

I've used both, yellow top and Kinetic, and yellow top didn't last long with my system, Two 13W6V2-D4's and a 1000/1 amp. I switched to Kinetic HC1800 and a BatCap 400 and system ran perfect.

A friend of mine also used yellow tops (3) in his Lexus with his 2 12's, 2 amps, and 4 TVs, and yellow top didn't last as well.. he switched to 2 Kinetic HC2400 and now all perfect.

Each brand battery can be perfect for different people, depending on what you're using them for. It's really coming down to preference.

The yellow top is actually more than $200 at Autozone (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=605893_0_0_) and I called a stereo shop about the KHC1800 and they said $350. And as I'm new to navigating around this forum, could you provide a link to the KHC1800 for $190 on here? Thanks.

And the KHC1800 will fit in our stock battery box with no problem?
