Default Bad Noise From Car

So there is this really bad noise coming from my cousins 04 maxima se manual.
i am not the one revving the car since i'm not sure if it would be safe and the car was cold so i told the person not to rev it but they did anyway.

<<< that is a link.

I think it has something to do with the head whether it be valves or lifters or whatever. Any body know what it is? Any black smoke you see is because the car has not cats, just stock exhaust with test pipe.

There is also oil around the head, but i don't believe it to be a blow head gasket since i dont think they cause black smoke, but blueish gray smoke?

That sounds awful!

Has the oil been changed regularly?

Have you even checked the oil level?

Timing chain tensioners. You might want to look into that and have it repaired Asap the longer your cousin waits you are risking more metal shavings inside your engine.

The car sits and hasent been driven in 2 weeks. Not sure if he will keep the car or not, but if he does it is good to know what the problem is.

Can anybody explain the oil on the head? My cousin said the car was running strong, especially after he changed out the cats to the pipe. So i guess it isnt something major but could be since it is oil on the head.

Does this mean that he has to replace the timing chains themselves or is there a seperate part as well?

And is this what causes that little ticking noise in most of these cars?

How much were oil we talking about that's on the head? is it possible it was spilled when they were filling up from the oil change? also yes if you're going to replace the tensioners you're better off replacing everything.

It's just kinda caked onto it. And it's only the head that is closest to the front of the car. The other head is clean. I guess that is a possibility that it was accidentally poured on there.

Sometimes the easy things are the hardest to get for me.

Is this what causes the ticking noise in 6th gen maxs? Sorry for asking twice, but i'm interested in knowing.

Yes, the ticking noise/rattle is usually caused by the timing chain guides. You can also get a lifter tick if your oil level is too low.
