Default Additional Work While Engine is out for Timing Chain/Tensioners Fix

I have an '05 Maxima with just shy of 90,000 miles on it. I have been hearing the notorious Timing Chain/Tensioners noise for about a year now but just looked into it and found out what it was today. I am going to be having the dealership perform the service bulletin for the bad Timing Chain/Tensioners and I was wondering if there is anything else I should have them do/replace while they have the engine pulled (since the majority of the cost is the labor involved in removing the engine and I really would like to avoid having to do that again any time soon)?

The only thing that has came to my mind so far is having them replace the motor mounts (probably with Racingline mounts). So if anybody knows of anything else that is notorious for problems or any performance upgrades please speak up.

Thanks!

Are you paying the stealership out of pocket for this?

probably, I had it done when I bought my car . It was acting up within a week, total cost was around including parts and labor $ 2500.00 but I didn't pay for it. I hope you look for coupons!!! have them change your water pump since they're yanking out your motor. =) good luck! no more winding noise here you come! yay!

Right now I think I am going to have the stealership do it and it is going to be out of pocket.

ohh! shop around at different stealership! Here in So Cal, I did my homework and amazingly, stealerships are idiots. Different stealerships were charging different prices for the same exact service. gold figure. Since I wasn't paying it, it didn't matter , but I felt comfortable with one because of the service writer wasn't bs'ing around. good luck my dear.

I would shop around , We had a memeber here that did the timming chain / tensior himself , now I know you might not be able to capable to do that but the point was , he acutally pulled it off without taking the motor out.

which would save alot of time and money, shop around.

BUT if you decide to head that rout, even with the racingline motor mount inserts, some dealerships is anal and wont even touch it because they need to be pressed in,
so unlesss you know the mechanics that work back there and not the idoits that sit on the stool and call themselfs a service writer.

your better off shopping around

i WOULD change the spark plugs and get the spacer kit if I were you. If that is something you are interested in doing that is.

As far as the stealerships go I am 100% going to them unless you know someone there. I have spoken with a local dyno/tuning shop to see if they could do it for me and I am waiting to hear back from them. As for doing it myself, I would love to do it but I just don't have the time or physical space to do it right now. The reason I think I might have to go to the stealership to have it done is the smaller shops might not have the specialized tools to do it.

As for the list of what else to have done to it I'm loving all the suggestions and so far my list includes:
  • Spark Plugs
  • Water Pump
  • Spacer Kit
  • Racingline Motor Mounts
The latter two items it sounds like I will only have done if I don't take it to the dealership.

Please keep the suggestions coming. I know there is stuff I'm not thinking of.
