Default (5spd Auto Only) Transmission Possible Fix?

Ok, as you guys know I got all my mounts fixed. Car rides pretty damn good now. But i'm still noticing a bit of a shift shock. Not nearly as bad. Dolla hooked up a nissan comp. to my car and we checked out what the tranny was doing. Pretty much it's you basic maxima tranny issue. The gears aren't turning on and off at the right times. soooooo

I bought a transgo kit. This kit pretty much tells you how to fix our common problem with the 04-05 tranny's. I bought the kit at a transgo wear-house. My car is currently at a tranny shop waiting for the kit to be installed as we speak. I'll keep everyone posted if this fixes the infamous problem with our generation. This might be one of the last modds I do to my car.

General Info. On The Kit:

Transgo Shifter Kit Model AW55-50SN

Local Distributor is located in Plainview off Exit 48 of the L.I.E.
There number is 1800-445-1170

I might be able to get a group deal going if enough ppl want this done. But first let me see my results and tell you guys if it's worth it. Wish me luck!

It is a fix to delay shifts and wrong shift times
Not a 04-06 official "fix" an official fix would be LEVEL 10 TRANSMISSION REBUILT
Torque Converter LEVEL 10
Valve Body LEVEL 10
Clutch Packs and Plates LEVEL 10
AMSOIL
That is the REAL FIX

my theory is...

if you don't wait to do it and get the kit right away it's an official fix. If you wait and continue to bang into gears that your asking to spend money on a real deal tranny fix. I've heard that even those with new Valve Bodies are a temp. fix and it's an relentless problem due to manufacture's mistake.

i got you. good point. well at the very least i'm getting the transgo fix and testing out my car. Whether it's a 100% that'll last years or a 1-2 year is fine with me. I'll be trading in my car by the summer

Default Re: (5spd Auto Only) Transmission Possible Fix?

I edited my post. I confused this kit with this one which is for the 4spd Auto's which is the one I have installed on my 4thgen. Its more performance related versus a rebuild fix kit.

TransGo Transmission Performance Shift Kit (4spd Auto's Only)

So here the correct info. The one you posted is for the 2004-2006 5SPD Auto's only. So for the 4spd guys... you should check my link above.

The 5SPD Kit - SK AW55-50:
  • Reduces/Corrects/Prevents Delay/Bang drive engagement
  • 4-3 and 3-2 coast clunk
  • 2-3 and 3-4 cut-loose
  • Kick-down runaways
  • TCC Slip
But actually Owen is right. This might help reduce a few things but it will not solve the infamous tranny problem which is caused by the results of high temps in the tranny. You would be better off installing an additional tranny cooler for half the cost. Although you have a heat sink which is like a mini tranny cooler you can add a full size tranny cooler like the one I have on my 4spd. I've seen it done on the 5spd Altimas w/heat sink so its definitely possible to install a piggy back cooler on the 5spd 6thgens.

The kit might work and improve a few things... but I'm pretty sure its NOT A PERMANENT FIX for the tragic 5spd tranny problem. The 5spd's are very expensive to replace. End result for most is just simply a new transmission. I would have done a tranny cooler a long time ago if I had 5spd just like I did to my 4spd. But more than anything I always keep up with my fluids....which is something many people tend to bypass until its too late.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

now i'm thinking of getting a transmission cooler to atleast cool down the tranny. I have a axle/seal leak to the tranny. i am constantly checking my fluid levels and is considering a tranny cooler.

Its relatively cheap fix as opposed to buying a tranny n if u go for the trade in, if they c the tranny is shot, u would look like an asshole. How much is a maxima worth wit a f**ked up trans.

It does work. Alot of the 5spd Auto's Altimas have it. Its mainly made for the 4spd which don't have a heat sink BUT.... you can add an external cooler to the 5spd for reinforcement. I know it work because I've seen it done.
