Default 5 Speed Auto Problem....

Ok, so I pull into a parking lot today, and the car wont shift to park from drive, wont go past Neutral...so I pull the ebrake, leave it in neutral with the car off, do what I have to do, and get it back home, luckily I didn't have to put it into reverse.

When I get home, I start playing with it....If I disengage the shift lock manually, the tranny works fine, drives fine in R, D, and manual mode. The car just will not disengage the shift lock automatically...

Also noticed, all of a sudden the trip mileage meter isn't sticking, everytime I shut the car off it goes back to 0.0, but it reads everytime I drive.

My first thought was that the switch on the brake isn't working, not sending the signal to the shift lock to disengage, but after realizing the trip counter was having an issue as well, I assume the problems are connected....

Thoughts?

no warranty....its not the tranny itself, it shifts mint, it has to be a sensor or switch or computer issue...just hoping someone can help me narrow it down

ok, sooooooo its not the switch lol. I noticed last night that the LED in the shift plate was out as well, check the fuse and it was blown....which is great.

Problem is, I dropped a new 15amp in there, and it blew as well after the 2nd time I used the car....

First thing , add a ground from the tranny to the body, I bet the ground is either corrode from battery acid since the ground cable is underneath the battery.
(I had this issue before and putting a new ground resolve this issue )

Second , have you recently added a stero system or leds ?

your basically grounding out if the fuse keeps blowing,
Are you getting any CEL lights ?

I have a CEL from the headers, but I haven't checked if there are any other codes coming up, so that will be happening asap just in case.

I guess I'll just grab a Ground Kit, and do the whole thing, give that a shot as well.

I added LED's inside in December, but haven't had a problem until now. My stereo is completely factory, no amps at all, just my Pioneer double-din, which has been in for over a year.

Thankfully the car runs great, its just annoying to have to deal with manually disengaging the shift lock, and I dont want it to lead to any other problems.

nothing too big, trying to locate the source of the electrical problem, but I'm not sure on everything it handles yet....so far I have shiftlock, shift plate led, interior blinker lights, and possibly trip-odometer memory....so right now I'm leaning towards it being a cluster ground out, maybe something up with the LED conversion, trying to find a cheap cluster to test
