Is it a direct swap if i wanted to swap tranny's with a 2007 maxima??? is it direct swap or a P.I.T.A. to do?
I know ppl who can do a basic swap and have done it before just wanna know if it's plug and play? lol

I dont see why it wouldn't be, but you would need to swap ECU's as well, and possibly some other sensors/modules. But it has to be possible, if your willing too invest the time and money

thats my next question. what else is causing the swap to be 'impossible'

looking at some of the research i did... looks like i need 2 things to make this swappable...

ECU and 07-08 Tranny... am i missing anything? is the ECU plug and play with the 05? what kinda disaster am i getting myself into?

Not really a disaster. Lol. Its very much do-able. TCM is a must. Did u check on the big org? I thought I saw a thread on it. It may cost u jus as much as the install of the shift kit or probally more.

Its not impossible and it can be done. But I said NO as I don't believe its just a direct plug-n-play. I just don't see the point in going that route bro and if you start having problems with the CVT what happens then... All those check engine codes that will you will get from the swap and the next owner not being to "pass inspection" unless they have a hook up. I mean its def possible because people have 6spd swaps which include axles, ecu's etc...

Where would you plan on getting the CVT from? Junk yard? From what I know those tranny's are more expensive than the 05's because when they go bad they are directly replaced and not rebuilt from what I know.

Keep in mind the 5spd Auto Tranny was made by Volvo not Nissan.

But this has my interest if you decide to move forward with it.

with all the work of transforming your 05 to a 07-08 look, i guess having the tranny in it will fully complete the process. Go for it and let us know if you find all the information.

You're better off getting the same year you have with low mileage. Plus CVT sucks no shift shock and really isnt a reliable transmission

that doesn't make any sense. CVT is perfect for what I use the car for... but if i buy another maxima it's going to be the 7thgen

It wasnt built to handle that much Torque on a Maxima.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continu...e_transmission

Disadvantages

  • In vehicles, without intervening electronics, a CVT will go to high revs on wide throttle opening. The increase in noise can be disquieting.[1]
  • CVTs are not as capable of handling torque as other transmission systems.
http://www.autozine.org/technical_sc...h_gear_cvt.htm

Advantage:
Much cheaper, lighter and smaller than automatic.

Disadvantage:

In reality, no faster or more frugal than automatic. "Rubber band effect" ratio varying feels strange.
Not really involving. Cannot cope with torquey engines.

Who use it ?
Nissan Teana, Primera, March, Cube (M6 Hyper-CVT), Fiat Punto (Speed Gear), Subaru Pleo (I-CVT), Rover MGF (Steptronic), Honda Fit.... many.

Rubber band effect: when the accelerator pedal was pressed, conventional CVT immediately brings the rpm up to a high level. The engine put out its maximum performance with the corresponding level of noise but the car slowly catches up in acceleration. This gives one the feeling of a slipping clutch.

What are the advantages of a CVT?

  • Much cheaper to build.
  • Lighter and smaller than automatic transmissions.
  • Much smoother than automatic transmissions.
  • Can save up to 30% in fuel consumption.
What are the disadvantages of a CVT?

  • Not faster or more reliable than automatic transmissions.
  • Cannot cope with big engines or high torque loads (engines above 3.5 ltrs).
Like you said they are reliable, but it still needs better improvement. And they should follow the Europeans and use a steel chain instead of the rubber belts in their transmission. I think it would handle the torque a lot better. As proven with the Audi's, BMW's, etc..
