Default Update: 07 Maxima...Fuel Pump, Filter, Dampers, or Timing Chain?

ok so every time im low on gas car makes jerking noise i know it is something to do with the fuel pump or fuel filter. so today it was making noise between (1500-2000 rpms)and i was low on gas(no fuel light was on yet) so i thought maybe i should put more gas in it and see if its still there after reached the midpoint i start her up and and took off. when i was accelerating i didnt hear the noise so i made a u-turn agian no noise, again an again. so i kinda flash back turn out to be every time i was low on gas it make that noise. so its either my fuel pump or fuel filter?
what you think i knw NIZMo will answer this question

edit: it stated doin it again

Maxima fuel filters r part of the fuel pump assembly. U can remove ur rear bench seat n actually pull the pump out urself n see if the filter bag on the pump has debris.

I was always told to never let the gas tank get very low on gas. This keeps the fuel pump lubricated at working longer. I have never needed a new fuel pump in any vehicle that I have owned.

I also change the fuel filter at the recommended interval.

I never drop much below 1/4 tank before I fill up. Thunder is correct...the fuel lubricates and cools the pump. It isn't good to run them low on s regular basis. I don't believe our fuel filters call for service ever, but you could check it for the piece if mind.

I had a Cadillac that was making a tapping sound after having a water pump replaced. The dealer was insisting I needed a valve job. I knew my car. I came in for a water pump and when I left they were telling me I needed a valve job.

I was very insistent the car was fine when I brought it in. I was not going to leave until they fixed my car. I called my brother to pick me up. He looked and listened and found a loose bolt that was left by the mechanic and it was making an exact tapping sound as if a valve was sticking.

Bottom line, make sure you don't have something loose that rattles on acceleration.

Hope you solve the problem.

alright from listen to the video
theres a few things that comes to my mind from the noise,

that clunk clunk , almost sounds like a loose tensior pulley or the timming chain tensior,

another thing that comes to me is to check the oil , the oil level sounds a bit low which cause the timming chain tensoir to tick tick tick...

also when you rev the car , it almost sounds like an exhuast leak, almost like near the y pipe or flex pipe is leaking.

those are the the 3 things that come to my mind so far,

since its a CVT tranny , im not sure how they sound when it goes wrong. so I wont even say its the tranny cause I never worked on 08s and up.

but from just listening to your vid the top 3 things come to my mind.

now the reason I say the tensior pulley , is because mines came loose, theres a nut that comes apart and there a washer that rubs against the belt , its a slight metal clunking sound , I would double check visual
it looks like this by the passenger side
http://images.search.yahoo.com/image...mb=QJZwjjZ/H1U

Altho im really leaning towards checking the oil , and adding .5 QT of oil.

I hear the timming chain mostly ,

Do you have aftermarket ypipes ? another thing it could be is the rear y pipe rattling against metal , which also sounds like the exhuast leak.

there is so many factors that come to my head and since the car isnt in front of me , its quite a bit hard.

I think you need a new timing chain tensioner. Thats what it sounds like. The old timing chain chatter. What most 6thgen engines seem to go through. Correct me if I'm wrong people. but that's what I'm getting from the sound.

cause when your at idle , your at not WOT with 0psi going thru the intake side , the timming chain tensoir could be loose which will throw timming off and could get worse within time.

we can now say it has nothing to do with fuel or your injectors or pump.

another thing it could be check is the exhuast.

well if thats the case , I would search the rear firewall and check the rear y pipe, the rattling sound almost like the header or y pipe and I also hear an exhuast leak , if you have a long rubber hose , guide it in the area of the flanges and the other end to your ear.

a small exhuast leak could also make the car jerk in low rpms until you get higher in the rpm

I'm in agreement with the hearing the timing chain tensioners...that thing sounds like a diesel.

Sounds like the timing chain tensioners. I just got over that and I ended up waiting too long to get it fixed. I ended up getting another motor.
