Default 04 trans repair (Valve body only or complete)

History: Purchased April 2014. Currently 190,000 miles, fluid is not dark. No shifting issues ever.

May 2014 450 mile 1-way trip. Highway speeds - after 3-4 hrs driving cruise control will disengage. No other issues. (air temp 80's)
Oct 2014 450 mile 1-way trip. Highway speeds - after 2-3 hrs driving cruise kicks out. At about hr 5 car "shutters" (single hit). This continues with sporadic single or double hits. Sometimes 1 min apart, sometimes 10 mins apart. (air temp 80's)
Oct 2014 (next day) 140 mile 1-way trip. Highway speeds - cruise kicked out at about 2 hrs. No other issues. (air temp 80's)
Oct 2014 (3 days later) 550 mile 1-way trip. Highway speeds - repeat cruise and shutter problems approximate as before. (air temp 80's)

No local or short trip (50 miles) issues ever.

Jan 2015 300 mile 1-way trip. Highway speeds - cruise? (not sure) and no shutter. (air temp 30's)
Jan 2015 (2 days later) 300 mile 1-way trip. Highway speeds - Cruise drops out at about 2-3 hrs. Car begins to shutter before hr 4, but very infrequently. (air temp 50's)

Still no local or short trip issues.

Now to my question. I have talked to 2 shops with this issue. Shop "A" says I need a valve body and possibly a torque converter, but probably just a valve body. $1500 or $2500 depending.
Shop "B" says it is the valve body, but with the mileage they won't just replace the VB, and recommends a complete rebuild. $3000-3200 typical, but estimate, not quote. Shop "B" is going to run a scan to check for a stored code (no check engine light or other indicators that he asked me about). He said that is could be an engine misfire causing it, or maybe a sensor on the trans.

IF... the valve body is the problem (as history suggests), which shop's recommendation is best?

Any other comments, recommendations, or alternate solutions are very welcome.

Thanks,
David

Here you go:

I got my vb from them about 1 year ago. No issues so far. In case you need the whole transmission. They have the "bulletproof" one for you.

Update.
I went to shop "B". They did a complete diagnostic (trans, engine, everything) and drove the car. As it turns out, they assumed that I had the crappy 5-speed which Nissan put in Maximas from 2004-2006. I have the 4-speed, which they said is the tried and true trans. that was used in early 2004 before being phased out. It is waaay less costly to repair.
No stored codes. The test drive showed NO problems. He said wait until the problem gets worse (if it does) before attempting to fix it.
