Default 04-08 Transmission Issue Question

While the main focus should remain on the initial question..i just want a view from you guys regarding my issue.
I feel little jerk while shifting 2-3 during cold. Note..each of the words in the last sentence is important.

Little Jerk
Only when Cold and vanished once the temp gauge reads in the middle of c &h
Only during 2-3..no infamous 3-2 or in any other gears.

Its in 84 K.The car has been serviced well since day 1. Did couple of time ATF drain n refill ( tried Amsoil ATF once ) with Nissan Matic K with no help.
Done the TSB for TCM and ECU reprogramming. ( both).
CPS sensor / Coolant Temp Sensor replaced.
Installed Racingline Grounding kit and tranny is well grounded.

Do you guys think its the valve body acting this way when its cold ? may be less fluid during cold..or any sensor related issues ? coz once warm up its perfect. Tranny ATF level is fine. Is there any way I could say tranny ATF is not in required level in COLD level ? I always checked in HOT after warm up is its perfect. When cold ( i mean after starting the car for only few mins ) the fluid level is really low.

Any advise will be really helpful

Its more than likely the cold. Do u let her warm up or jus get in n go? Location (temp)? Oils r thicker when they r cold n lossen up once warm. Usually on a trans goin bad, the banging into gears happens when its fully warmed up n driven for a while. Also check ur mounts, they play a big role when it comes to shifting issues.

Thanks man for your response.

I live near LA, so it hardly gets cold below 55 F..Most of the time its 65 F outside.
All the mounts are fine and were replaced 6-7 months back.

I would guess - if it was because of mounts it wud cause the harsh shifting in every condition not just during cold.

And ya, I let her warm up for some time and drive it like grandma till it fully warms up. I think we all should do this to maintain the life of the car.

But I think its not NORMAL to behave like this. So not sure how can I completely resolve this problem. May be the famous Lubeguard ? Thinking of trying that too. But I will look for some more opinions on this.

I had that happen to me but in gears 1-2. I changed all my mounts not too long ago and hasn't happened since. Could be weather (even though you're in LA) and it could be mounts. Have all yours checked, either by you or mechanic, and see if they're worn, torn, or loose.

ihad the same problem along with some other friends i know, there is a tsb nissan has put out for harsh 2-3 shift in the 5speed automatic trans, you can try calling the dealership they should know about it. If your car falls in the tsb there is a reprogram that can be done. If and when its done you will get a rough shift for a few days and then it usually goes away. Atleast thats what happened to me, im in minnesota and it gets cold as ****** up here always shifted hard but this helped

Thanks for your response.
For my case, they are all replaced recently.
And again, this does not happen all the time. Its only during cold start. So, mounts should not be the issue.

So, after performing ECU and TCM upgrade, I drove more than 300 miles. But did not notice any improvement.
In a year, I changed tranny fluid 3 times.
first- Nissan Matic K
second - Amsoil
third - Nissan Matic K again.

each time, I dint feel ANY improvement as if it s designed to do so.( hard shift in cold )
Last fluid in my mind (after good feedback from maxima.orgers) Mobil tranny fluid.
Its not mounts for sure. I checked, a local shop checked, Nissan dealers checked- no issues.
May be a good fluid which has good flow rate in cold could help. I really dont like the idea of adding Lucas/Lubeguard as suggested by some of the members..

Lets see,,

The only workaround is : warm up for few mins then drive slowly..
driving like grandma makes sense during warm up..but hard shifting does not.
Its sick and I really feel uncomfortable infront of friends during that time.
Also during cold - it shifts in 2300-2500 rpm - if that makes sense

The problem is the valve body , you can buy a new one or get the Transgo shift kit .
