Default Code p0795 stuck in 5th

Hey everyone new here to the site and new to the 04-06 Maxima world. Just purchased a 2006 maxima with 126,000 miles , vehicle is stuck in 5th and code p0795 and 2 catalytic converter codes. Obviously no power. if I manually shift it, it will downshifts hard into a lower gear but that's it, basically a 2 speed in manual mode. car does pull strong so it's not a clogged cat issue. Just looking on where to start to fix this. I was thinking change transmission fluid and change cam sensors. Even though I have no codes for them? Thank you guys.

Okay thank you for the reply, Today I changed the transmission fluid in the car, and reset battery and now it will go into first gear like it should and drive fine for a minute or so then go back into limp mode. Guessing valve body will be on purchase. The only code I'm getting now is p0795 which is pressure solinoid c.

Forgot to mention car sometimes doesn't always start right up, it takes a couple tries. Or more turn overs from starter then normal to start. Sometimes idles ruff aswell for a second or 2... I feel cam shaft sensors maybe need replacing? But no code for them showing up.

Yes, could be the cam sensors. Though I'd prefer to wait for the codes to show. For such mileage, it might be advisable to change all two cam sensors and the crank sensor. All oem.

Well today I fixed the transmission limp mode. 2 wires going into top of transmission was not connected due to someone splicing them and not connecting them . Just amazed. Looks like fans don't work and haven't been working now

That's good to hear. Saves you a lot of $$$. Still, keep an eye on the valve body. The pressure solenoids are inevitably prone to failure....except of course that issue had been addressed before.

Thank you Costee

I Replaced the fan assembly with OEM part. That's good to go now. I will say when I changed transmission fluid I used Mercon ||| after googling it first It's suppost to be Nissan K matic equivalent. But find that was wrong after looking on here I need Mercon |V . Maybe that's why it's shifting kinda hard at times?

I'd suggest no experimentation at the moment. Use Nissan's Matic K.

Okay. Gonna change it again Friday. Is there a shift learning process after reseting battery? Cause last night car was shifting flawless all night long after I reset battery. Then this morning wife used bump shift mode and now it's back to shifting like junk again.

No, there's no learning process. Hopefully, this might be addressed when you have in the proper fluid. Watch out for codes before resetting the battery.

Yeah i have been checking the codes constantly. Only code I have is catalytic converter code. There is material inside of it rattling around. It's been slowly working its way out the exhaust lol. I did put axle back exhaust on it. Fingers crossed fluid change does it. If not it's embarrassing to be driving and when it goes to 3rd or 4th it will free rev for literally 1 sec then shift hard into that gear. Sometimes when u put it in drive ur waiting 2 or 3 secounds for it to engage 1st. Gonna change fluid and see how it goes at this point. Also to check trans fluid in this should it be hott and in gear then check it? Or?

Strangely enough the symptoms you describe are the usual familiar signs of the failing pressure solenoids in the valve body. But since no relevant codes yet let's see what happens when you change the oil. Checking the dip stick is usually a tricky one. It's better when engine is warm/hot and in park. You should be all right if fluid is present on the hot mark on the dip stick. In draining the fluid the rule is refill with the amount drained, but that is under normal circumstances if there'd been no leak or you have a previous history of what has gone in. But all told, you would't need more that 3.5qrts.

Thank you so much costee, update this morning car did great, shifting completely smooth not a single ruff shift that's after resetting battery yesterday evening. Fluid change later today then just drive it and see how it does.

One thing after another with this thing. Alternator stopped charging today on the wife. Left her stranded wiring on alternator pig tale was ghetto rigged and came off. So gotta rewire that. But beats having to buy a 184.00 dollar alternator.... This car is working my nerves

So far so good. Smooth shifting, downshifting has been a little rough at times.

Ok. Nice. Just keep watch. Once the SES light turns on, scan.

Well it's back to shifting like poo again. Going into neutral for a second or 2 between gear changes. At this point it's turning into a money pit.

Hopefully the SES light should come on soon. Meanwhile, you could scan maybe there'll be pending codes. I still strongly suspect the valve body.

Only codes are catalytic converter. No pending. Transfluid is nice and clean still. And at the perfect level.

Well my valve body wiring is junk I attempted to redo the wiring but it threw it self back into limp mode. I need a wiring digram or just need foot long valve body wires. Can't find any local either
