Default How to Replace Passenger Side Engine Mount

I did this write up since I couldn't find one here and maybe it'll save someone some money. My mount was so bad it'd cause a loud thumping noise, usually during accelerating. I was quoted $580 parts and labor for what cost me $90 and a little over an hour to do myself. Car moves great now, tranny even shifts better!

Tools needed:
jack
jack stands
tire iron (from Maxima car jack)
ratchet with at least 1 6" and 1 3" ratchet extension(what I had), preferably 2 6" or 1 12"
10mm deep socket
14mm socket, a 9/16 worked fine for me since my 14mm became a casualty(see below)
flathead screwdriver
needle nose pliers
breaker bar, I used the extension from my floor jack

1. Put on parking brake
2. Break loose front passenger wheel lugs
3. Jack up front end of car and place jack stands
4. Take off wheel lugs and remove wheel and the splash guard in front of crank pully
5. With a block of wood on the jack, position it under the oil pan and jack up just enough to take the weight off the engine mount hardware. It doesn't take much. If the car is raising off the jack stands you've gone way too far.
6. Remove plastic cover above overflow bottle
7. Remove the following bolts (10mm) then pull out the overflow tank, careful not to spill coolant out the open spout on the tank (faces firewall). Then squeeze the clips and remove the plastic connectors from the bracket above the engine mount. It's the grey plug in first pic, above the top arrow. You can separate the connector ends also, but I didn't find it necessary.

8. Remove the following bolt with a 10mm deep socket, then press the tab in with a screw driver and pull out the fuse box. You only need to move it slightly aside so you have a clear shot at the engine mount bolt under it.

9. Remove the following bolts and nuts. I went with the ones on the black part of the mount before the two bolts that connect to the body. I don't think it really matters though. Then remove the engine mount.

Now just reverse the order for installation. When putting the new mount in I loosely threaded each nut and bolt so they'd all line up and then gradually tightened them. For my peace of mind I also double checked them once it was driven a bit. Hope this helps you guys out, it's a pretty easy job.

It's just a little torn...it only took one quick twist and pull to totally separate it.

Nice man, glad I could help. If we get a warm day soon I'm going to check out my transmission mount. I can imagine extra stress was put on it once this mount went bad. You might want to do the same.

All the nuts and bolts on the transmission mount are 14mm.

You'll also need a 17mm for the front motor mount to take the bolt out in order to raise the engine high enough for the tranny mount job. I didn't do it that way but wish I did, lol.

Ok, new to this forum. I am going to have to replace the front and right engine mounts on my 06 Maxima. I ordered them today from a nissan dealer in Massachusetts, lowest prices; 135 and 96, respectively. I appreciate the instructions and pics!
Has anyone else had their floors rust out? Bringing the car in tomorrow to have the drivers floor pan replaced.

The pictures and steps are near the top of this thread for the passenger side mount. The front mount is easier because there is more room. floor panels are very common on the altimas and maximas. I currently have to replace my passenger side one. It's pretty bad.

Thanks...I did the front engine mount the other day after dinner and it was pretty easy. Going to tackle the right side mount this coming week. I was hoping the front mount was the reason my check engine light was coming on, but no such luck.

Thanks for the pictures and instructions!

I just had the dealer wed in a new piece of sheet metal on the drivers side...was a pretty half-assed job, but i got almost 200k miles on it and it is 10 years old , so it is better than it was.
