Default Zinc Coated Performance Rotors

Hi Guys,

So I've been browsing many threads about group buys and opinions on different brand drilled/slotted rotors. I've seen some random no name brands on Ebay that claim they are Zinc coated so that they will "never rust".

A) Is this accurate and also would an eBay quality "Zinc coated" rotor actually live up to its claim?

B) Are there any preferred brands, tried and tested? Stock calipers, ceramic Duralast pads?

I've seen those I think when you brake the black comes off of the rotor but stay in the slotted drilled area.. Or are they different ones??

I'm talking about the rust that you see on the rotor, it usually turns brown and disgusting. It's the oxidation.

They say they have ZINC coated rotors that are never supposed to rust ever. Does anybody know or can point me in the right direction?

The zinc coating is kind of a joke. I had it on mine and there is still some rust. Dont make that a deciding factor when buying rotors.

Then are these no name eBay rotors worth it? How much should I be paying for quality drilled/slotted rotors that won't warp and aren't total crap?

For some thing decent for all 4...in the 200.00-250.00 range. You dont want to totally cheap out here. Remember you and your families life is on those brakes.

Any specific brands? Is there any hope to this zinc coating? Bedside looking good and increased stopping power I wanted to replace the stock rotors because they are rusted to shit.

Mainly in trying to avoid rust

If youre looking on ebay Id say they are all about the same. I know some will say ebay rotors suck but Ive had good luck with them in the past. I had some on a Mustang for over 2 years with out a problem.

The zinc coating will come off of the braking surface. The zinc coating left on the rest of the rotor will oxidize and or wear off eventually. Until rotors are made of a material impervious to rust then they will rust.

Please don't. Even though it is annoying for the rain or washer fluid to come in while you are moving. They are fugly IMHO.

I might change your opinion Don.. I agree those bulbous looking auto zone specials that go in with 2 face tape are ugly... However the in channels are supposed to be flush. I am on the fence about it. I'm running out of things to do to this car beyond springs ( which I won't do ) so hmm..

Wow I am surprised that so many are saying "nay" on the zinc. I have them on my car for about 3 sets now and would absolutely not buy them without it. I see my wife's Caddy, doesn't have them and I can see the rust.

I have bought in on Rotorpros for 2 sets, giving Alien a try now. Got them in the garage waiting. All D/S all zinc coated.

If you could rate quality and price... Rotorpros or aliens. Which should I lean towards? And yeah, the rust look kills me.

Once again those 2 brands are about the same quality. Pick the one with the best price.

You said you were running out of things to do to the Max?? Y-pipe and exhaust? CAI? LED's in the cup holders?Progress RSB? Racingline FSB? Cory/NWP spacers? Painted headlights?

You have all that stuff?? If not you have plenty you can do...

Wow....ok then you are running out of stuff to do. Thats the bad thing about our cars is that there isnt enough aftermarket support. Its not like owning a Mustang or Corvette...skies the limit with those.

Eddy recommended Aliens, so I thought I would give them a shot. I've never had before and they aren't installed yet. Price would be the determining factor at this point for me between the two at this point.

Lol my Dads got a Vette... That thing is pure sex when it turns on. Yeah... I should do my build thread soon ... I wish there was a turbo kit... Honestly the only thing I haven't done to the car is exhaust and coils... Stock is fine for me. I also removed my tints because a "panda" white and black maxima automatically gives cop boners.

I live for all this though, all the mods I did I would have never known.

Have you got the gauge/cluster LED conversion? Also, if you're worried about rust, hit the rotor hub with a good coat of self-etching primer and then some paint...you'll be just as good to go as having the zinc plating.

I had a set of EBAY front rotors on my Mustang...drilled/slotted, and never had an issue with them.

As far as that goes, I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing about EBC rotors, but you are going to pay for them.

Have used ebay rotors on several cars. I think the pads are just as important as the rotors. Price between alien and rotor pros should be considered and you can't go wrong with either according to most on here. Haven't decided myself on which to use when I get mine come fall. Wish I had enough for the BBK all at once but oh well. You should update your pics.
