Default Help Rear Strut Assembly Picture

I'm replacing the struts on my 05 Maxima SL with KYB Excel. The fronts went fine. Now I'm having major problems with the rear.

Does anyone have a picture of a properly put together rear strut with the bump stop and other rubber pieces and metal washers????

On test drive I am getting a terrible rattling noise like the strut piston is rattling around and loose. It's so bad I won't drive the car. I obviously screwed something up. I can't find a picture anywhere on the web.

Can you post a picture of it? I can tell you if it is correct or not. I don't have a pic of mine handy. But I was just in there cleaning the abs sensors and adjusting the ebrake.

Did you tighten the nut on top of the top mount of the rear shock before you put it on?

I wish I had a picture of how it was originally but I don't. Here's how its installed now and it results in the strut piston coming lose and rattling all around inside the bracket.

From bottom to top I've got:
Dust Boot
Tapered rubber piece with taper on top
Cylinder shaped rubber piece
little pipe that keeps the rubber bits connected to the bracket
Bracket
Dome shaped large rubber piece
Top special washer (upside down bowl shape)
A Second washer on top of that
The nut
The rubber cover

When I tighten the top nut the tapered rubber piece on the bottom slips over the metal stop on the strut. That doesn't seem right.

Does the second washer I'm using on the top belong on the bottom??

So frustrated with this install right now. To top it off the transmission went on the wife's car so we need this car on the road badly.

Any help would be huge to me right now. Thanks

That's a good walk through. And it shows exactly what you need.
