Default Akebono Brake Upgrade 370z Sport Brake Upgrade Project

Hello 6th Gen world.

I wanted to share with the forum my Akebono 370Z Sport Brake Upgrade Project. I have been inquiring, researching and comparing the best (for the money) possible BBK upgrade for my Max.

EddyMaxx did a great write up on the possible brake upgrades and BBK options and gave me some great feedback that lead to my decision to go with the 370Z Akebono Sport BBK package.

ConceptZ Performance offers the Akebono Nissan 370Z Sport Front and Rear 14 Inch Big Brake Upgrade Kit 09+ Z34 http://www.conceptzperformance.com/C...75.176.138.108. In order to stay within my budget, I purchased the rear section 1st. It included:

-2 Banjo Bolts w/ washers
-L&R Nissan OEM Rear Calipers Akebono Sport Grey Z34
-Centric Rear Drilled and Slotted Akebono Sport Black Zinc Rotors
-Centric Posi-Quiet Pads

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

With the shipping and parts my total was $1018. (Just for the rear section of the kit)

Below are some pics after I had them installed:

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

Click the image to open in full size.

(Note)Modification List:

-TEIN SS Coilovers
-RacingLine Y Pipe
-RacingLine Endlinks
-RacingLine polished Battery tie down
-Nismo Front and Rear Sway bars
-Stillen polished FSTB
-Kinetix Intake Manifold
-Injen Customized CAI
-K&N Air Filter
-Custom Maxima Exhaust
-Star 22" Wheels
-Nexen 245/30/22 N3000
-Optima Red Top Battery
-2 Stinger SPV20 Batteries
-2 Kicker L7 15" Subs
-Kicker ZX 2500.1
-Kicker ZX 350.4

I paid $108 to have them installed here in SC at a local Race Shop. Firestone and a couple other maintenance shops wouldn't even do the install for me.

The Race Shop had to remove the heat shield and everything bolted up with no issues.

As for the Front Portion of my project, ConceptZ is asking for about $1100. Since this is the look and modification I'm going for I'm going to honker down and go for it.

I will be sure to keep the forum updated on my BBK Project progress. If you have any questions please let me know.

Please leave me any feedback and suggestions.

Good job, I have been wanting to do this upgrade. What offsets are your wheels I am wondering if my 18's will have enough clearance. Also was anything else needed for the rear?

Very nice. Any concerns having the rear complete and not the fronts? Wouldn't that cause unbalanced braking? I thought that is why most start with the front first.

I'm hoping the 350Z Brackets from ConceptZ will work. If not then I will definitely keep the forum updated.

I had the front rotors and pads replaced last year when I was in Hawaii. I had never had a brake job done on Tha Max since I got it.

This BBK project has been on my agenda for some time now and instead of paying 400-500 on new rotors and pads. And possibility painting the stock calipers I decided to start with the rear portion of this BBK.

Now that the rears are done I can work on getting the front done to complete my project. Hopefully I will have this project completed by the end of July.

This is awesome! Great job being one of the firsts with this kit.

Curious tho did you need special brackets for the rear? I can only assume the fronts require brackets too. Do you know where we can get the brackets for the 6th gen?

Thanks bro. The rears didn't need any brackets. The heat shields have to be removed and they bolt up directly with no problem. The front calipers however do require a bracket to accommodate the 14" rotors. I'm hoping the 350Z brackets work out just fine. As I stated before I'll be sure to keep this thread updated as I progress with this project.

This. I'm going to be ordering my Wilwood front kit from FastBrakes next week actually. It's a great deal, you just need to use your stock rotors or pick up some from Brakemotive.

I could but i'm trying to do a OEM+ look. Sourced out a set of 300zx w/ brakets & 13" rotors from a part out. Im a softee for that NISSAN stamp! Plus i'm also doing suspension and looking for a local place to custom powder coat a set of g37. Between camera equipment and getting the itch to start working on the ride again after demodded her 3 years ago, a budget is in place.
