Default How to Create Maxima Port Tube

Courtesy of CineMax
------
As you know, I am a new member here and I figured I'd share my creation with you guys since everybody seems so helpful with ideas and group buys, etc. Here's what you'll need:

1)Flathead screwdriver
2)Razor blade
3)Permanent marker
4)Drill
5)Hole Saw

Click the image to open in full size.
6)if no hole saw, then a jigsaw will do
Click the image to open in full size.
7)Port tube (can be purchased at any stereo shop)
Click the image to open in full size.

8)Shopvac

First, let the rear arm rest down. Place the port tube in the center of the plastic backing of the armrest. Take the permanent marker and trace the rear of the port tube.

Second, open the trunk, let down the seat and pop the flaps on the seat cover. Then unzip the seat cover. You will see the black plastic seat back. Go back to the inside of the vehicle and prepare to drill.

Next, drill a hole in the center of the marked circle of the plastic backing. Use the hole saw and drill out a perfect hole. If using a jigsaw, you have to drill a starter hole from the front side. Then, use a flathead to remove the xmas fasteners holding in the plastic backing. It will slide right out. Next, you have to fold the seat back down, place the port tube on the black plastic seat backing and trace the bottom of the tube. Use the center hole as a starting point and use the jigsaw to create your hole. Next, secure the plastic backing and cut the circle in it. Then, you will have to take a razor blade and cut a circle into the seat fabric that was under the plastic backing. (not the fabric in the trunk)

Next, put the plastic backing back in, and replace the xmas fasteners. Now slide the port tube into the hole. fold the seat back down and use the marker to gauge how wide the tube needs to be.

Click the image to open in full size.

The tube will stick though the black plastic seat backing like above, but you need to use the jigsaw to cut it down so that it will fit flush with the seatback. After cutting the tube, insert it into the hole again. Now, use a vacuum to get up all the loose plastic. Zip up the seat cover and snap the bottom together. Let the seat up and vacuum up the seat. You now have a carpeted port hole! :bang:

Here are pictures of my finished job!!! Thanks to the guys at Stereo One for helping me out!!!

Why would you need to put down the rear seat? I have 2 8" subs, and I get plenty of bass out of them. I have them firing towards the rear of the car, and I actually had to turn them down a bit. I was sitting in the back seat doing something and had the radio on, and the bass was hitting pretty good...I felt bad for my 6 year old riding back there!

Hey guys, open the trunk, look down at the latch buckle.

Loosen the two 10mm bolts and tap the buckle down.

Retighten bolts (make sure buckle dosen't move back up) shut the trunk and turn the bass up.

My trunk used to rattle like a bitch, this made a HUGE difference.

:D

Nice work Eddy.I have 2 12" subs facing rear and had rattling issues real bad.I found some sound deadener on ebay called fatmat xtreme.its a little thicker than dynamat and I only paid $55.it was 16 sq.ft and it covered most of my trunk.I still had some rattle so I decided to make a rear deck port.now my only rattling going on is a piece in my rear taillight lol.
